Senior Accountant

Career Transitions Holdings is currently seeking a Senior Accountant for our local client, to join their accounting team.  This transitional role is part of a company wide succession planning initiative to infuse their organization of talent for future leadership roles, leading a team of 6 accounting professionals.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for complex accounting activities associated with maintaining ledger accounts and for developing financial statements and reports for the core business. Direct and oversee activities of staff accountants and A/P & A/R team.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage staff accountants including A/P & A/R staff.
  • Responsible for providing leadership, mentoring, and guidance to more junior level staff.
  • Submits cash applications to the vouchers/invoices. Researches and resolves accounts receivable issues.
  • Analyzes records of financial transactions to determine accuracy and completeness of entries.
  • Closes month-end accounting books. Prepares bank reconciliations including balance sheet and profit and loss statement.
  • Other responsibilities include:
    • Preparing income statements, balance sheets and various other statements.
    • Analyzing accounting variance and prepares variance reports.
    • Reviews for financial conformance accounts receivable activities for mid and large customers.
    • Creates month-end accounting entries and reconciles discrepancies; posts to GL and reviews variances to budget. May be required to read and interpret contracts, legal documents, and other agreements.
  • Help participate in system conversation or enhancements and training with new process / systems.
  • Works with audit staff, help resolve issues.
  • Responds to management regarding various accounting issues and reports, including P&L statement.  Also researches best practices and helps recognize potential issues and/or conflicts.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field with between 5-9 years of related experience.  Experience in property management and/or financial institutions highly preferred.  Must have at least 2 years in a supervisory/lead capacity.  CPA or work towards CPA preferred.
