Production Supervisor

If you offer a minimum of five years of experience as a Production Supervisor, you have interest in applying to this permanent job in Elkhart, Indiana. In this role, you will direct and manage employees in the areas of production volume, cost, quality, and meeting production schedules and delivery dates. Note, you must manual production process experience. You will ensure maximum productivity of production workers, train employees in safe methods of production, adhere to company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices, assure machinery, equipment, and facilities are properly maintained for efficient production, schedule overtime as required, initiate and develop the goals, objectives, and quality standards of the departments, assist with the implement of Lean manufacturing principles, and maintain positive employee relations. This position reports to the Plant Manager.

What will you be doing?
  • Leads the development and implementation of standard operating procedures that focus on continuous improvement
  • Supervises the production of quality product through continual monitoring of the line operation
    • Orders necessary materials and supplies
    • Inspects machinery and equipment for proper operations
    • Ensures that periodic quality checks are performed
    • Produces product of the highest quality at the lowest possible cost
  • Effectively utilizes labor hours to maximize product line positions and productivity
    • Assigns hourly employees to production line positions which maximize productivity
    • Prepares production lines prior to daily/shift start-up
    • Maximizes quality parts produced hour by hour
  • Accurately documents and analyzes daily production line reports in a timely manner:
    • Monitors and documents equipment downtime during shift
    • Completes daily production reports at the end of shift
    • Completes weekly cost reports
  • Ensures operation of equipment by calling for repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Oversees Programming and Set-ups of all equipment:
  • Effectively interfaces with key departments such as Engineering, Maintenance, and Tool & Die in order to solve production issues and coordinate a smooth work flow process
  • Facilitates and assigns work within departments according to established schedule.  Confirms operators are working on job assignments according to established schedule.  Verifies and confirms all labor transactions and material movement
  • Facilitates cost containment measures for direct labor, indirect labor, raw materials, rework, factory supplies, overhead, inventory, and utility costs
  • Provides initial training and advanced cross training for all department employees in order to maximize production efficiencies and minimize scrap
  • Develops and implements a production schedule with the production control department
  • Maintains a high level of employee motivation and promotes cooperation within the department
  • Implements lean manufacturing principles:
    • Produces top quality instruments
    • Raises the skill levels of each employee
    • Maintains low employee turnover
    • Ensures a highly effective and efficient work environment
  • Maintains a safe and secure work environment:
    • Protects the safety and welfare of employees
    • Protects the facility from any undue risk
  • Compiles monthly scrap reports
  • Supports and promotes the lean manufacturing concepts by:
    • Participating in the various  Kaizen events
    • Encouraging the workforce in participating in the various Kaizen events
    • Promoting 5-S
    • Encouraging employees’ suggestions and recommendations for continuous improvements
  • Maintains safe and clean work environment by ensuring employees are educated and trained in operating the department machines; are educated and trained in the proper use of personal protective equipment; are educated and trained in Hazardous Materials and MSDS  
  • Ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement

What do you need for this position?
  • Bachelor’ s degree in engineering or supply chain, or significant equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a supervision of manual manufacturing processes
  • Minimum 3 years direct lean manufacturing experience
  • Strong machining background; CNC, etc.
  • Proven visual system proficiency (ERP, Info VISUAL, etc.)
  • Proven leadership, ability to coach, team building, and problem solving skills
  • Proficiency in computer systems, Word, Excel, AS400, MAPICS, JDE
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be results driven
  • An ability to think ahead, plan, and prepare action plans to achieve results
  • An ability to balance and achieve positive results in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, cost, and employee relations
  • Ability to make decisive decisions, work well under pressure, and work with all levels of the organization

  • Requires long periods of walking, standing on concrete floor surface
  • This work requires the following activities: climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.  The work is performed primarily indoors
  • Requires some sedentary work
