Environmental Health and Safety Engineer

Career Transition Holdings, LLC has been awarded a project by a large industrial manufacturing client located in Southwestern Michigan to help them locate an experienced and passionate Environmental Health & Safety professional for its multi-site operation in Michigan. 

Our client is growing.  Servicing a wide diversified client base that includes automotive manufacturing, aerospace & defense, and industrial needs, employing nearly 800 people.   

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be an advocate and champion for acceptable Safety behaviors and activities on the shop floor to reduce and/or eliminate incidents and accidents.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers, Manufacturing Managers, and Maintenance Technicians to identify and track engineered safety solutions to eliminate unsafe conditions.
  • Conduct accident and incident investigations.  Provide hands-on guidance to plant supervisors regarding accident reporting.
  • Complete Root Cause Analysis of accidents and incidents to prevent re-occurrences and drive corrective actions.
  • Develop SOPs, JHA/JSA.
  • File accident claims with Workers Comp carrier.  Oversee Lite Duty return-to-work program.  Interact with Occupational Health Clinic, injured worker, supervisor, and Workers Comp claims adjuster to facilitate work within restrictions.

OSHA/EPA Regulations:

  • Maintain compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, and other Environmental, Health, and Safety regulations.
  • Conduct and lead coordination of Inspections by regulatory agencies (OSHA/ MIOSHA/ IOSHA); ensure deficiencies are minimized and corrected, and present findings and corrections to Business Unit Leaders and General Manager.
  • Identify OSHA or other regulatory-required employee training; coordinate or conduct required employee training.
  • Maintain OSHA 300 logs/300A Summary/Posting/Electronic Filing, etc.
  • Maintain all OSHA-required written programs; emergency action plans, SDS, etc.
  • Conduct all OSHA-required testing, such as hearing, air quality testing, respirator fit testing, etc.
  • Conduct and lead coordination of Inspections by regulatory agencies (OSHA/ MIOSHA/ IOSHA); ensure deficiencies are minimized and corrected, and present findings and corrections to Business Unit Leaders and General Manager.
  • Chair monthly Safety Committee Meetings at each plant.
  • Conduct new hire safety onboarding.
  • Conduct audits and inspections of the plant(s) at regular intervals for compliance with Company safety policies and applicable regulations.
  • Assist with IATF/ISO audits, both internal and external.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, or related technical field is preferred with at least 3 years of experience implementing and administering safety programs in a manufacturing environment is required.  Prefer certifications such as CSP or OSHA 1910 General Industry 10-30-hour.  Solid technical background with most MS Business Application software ( ie, Excel, Word, Outlook, Plex, etc. ).  The interpersonal and communication skills to influence peers on safety in order to achieve desired targets.
