Leading manufacturer with a 80 years heritage of producing high quality gears and machined parts to heavy industry, including capital equipment, construction, oil &gas, defense and mining industries, is looking for an experience Engineering Manager for its Roscoe, IL location.  This roll will serve to replace the incumbent, who is retiring after many years with the organization. 

Position Scope:

Responsible for the overall for a  manufacturing organization of heavy, large diameter gears for large industrial applications. 

Essential Functions:
  • Must be active on the shop floor to support manufacturing as needed.
  • Supervising and directing manufacturing engineers (machining and gear manufacturing) for daily troubleshooting of machines to assure smooth setups that yield processes that are under control.
  • Manages and trains manufacturing engineers to support existing equipment as well as on new equipment purchased.
  • Optimum Utilization of equipment (Lean) and recommendation to replace or purchase new equipment to support new business.
  • Dispositioning nonconforming products and support root cause analysis with permanent corrective action.
  • Manage ECN process by directing process engineer.
  • Manages the APQP process for existing product and new product launches
  • Manages tooling design and purchase.
  • Guides and manages process engineers in preparing routings, operational drawings, and control plans.
  • Participates in the selection of suppliers for outside processes and tooling.
  • Works closely with Sales to create and coordinate the presentation of quotes to customers.
  • Capacity planning of all equipment to ensure smooth flow of production and to prevent/eliminate bottlenecks
  • Coordinates with vendors (including overseas suppliers) for quotes, quality and overall effectiveness.
  • Keeps the pulse of the market for competitiveness.
  • Supporting QA as necessary on setup inspection, final inspection, or any inspection technique through manufacturing engineers.
  • Helps train operators on floor as necessary for machine operation and inspection technique.

Requirements for the Position:

Engineering degree with at least 5 years of engineering experience with gears and/or machined parts.  Must have at least 3 years of managerial/supervision experience. Must be able to promote and foster a LEAN culture and be able to effectively lead  a group of professionals.   Proficient in use of Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with Solidworks preferred.
